I was pretty darn excited to read this book. The synopsis hits some big ticket items for me: Cuba, family relationships, sex, revolution, and immigrating to the USA. These are all things I that I've seen make a good book in the past, but unfortunately Palacio missed the mark for me. The writing was beautiful and I was captivated for approximately one chapter..... and then for the remaining 300 pages I was so bored. I was not attached to the characters at all. The plot was fairly uneventful and the relationships seemed flat. There were a decent amount of sex scenes and not one of them felt right. They felt like a waste of space and frequently left me cringing. I dragged my feet for so long about reading this book. I'm not sure I would have finished it if it hadn't been a review copy.
I received this book from Blogging for Books for review
